Project 01_Task 05: Diagramming by Reverse Design

Based on previous interpretations and conceptual extractions, a series of analytical developments through ideas of ‘reverse design’ are to be conducted by, but not limited to, the following critical definitions:

Solid v. Void (positive and negative)
Surfaces (horizontal, vertical, and diagonal; positive and negative)
Volumes (positive and negative)
Massing (actual and conceptual)
Constants & Variables
- constants: a series of clues, cues, signals, datum, reference points, underlying structure, or framework.
- variables: the potential options, choices, or thematic elaborations within a given framework.
Conceptual Translation Diagrams
Reverse Designing (influences from site, program, and concept)

Homework:
1. Please build a physical model, same scale as your floor plan in Task 02. Common materials are chip board, museum board, MDF, etc. A base of the building is required. Please make stick a label on the base, which should include information, such as name of the building, architect, year that the building is completed, location of the building, scale of the model, the total square footage of the building, your (model-maker's) name, and the name of our studio section.

2. Produce diagrams on three sheets of 8.5x11 paper, all diagrams are required to be in 3D (axonometric or isometric):
one for Reverse Designing/Conceptual Translation,
one for Solid vs. Void or Positive vs. Nagative Space study, and
one for Surface (horizontal, vertical and diagonal) study

Here are some examples:
